This does not seem to be a html5 valid implementation as at least in the demo it does not scale the way the normal JSlider does. Does anyone know if this is just how it is shown in the demo or if this is in fact a limitation of the component?

It's jQuery based. It works properly on HTML5 websites. There's no a limitation.
