It is a particle system created from custom images,
also if you change them it is possible to achieve other beautiful effects.

I’m not particulary interested in the smoke but more in the particle system,

Hi again Ontheronix, I created Smoke Gen by myself in AS3, and since it is paid component, you’re welcome to get its sources by purchasing the component.
But if you’re searching for ActionScript tutorials or open-source projects – just use google, it is possible to find free things on the web.
